Our School

Grimoldby Primary School is a friendly village school, in which children of different ages cooperate and play together. The buddy system, in which children in Year 6 are linked with those in the Reception Class, is particularly successful and results in the smaller children playing with the older ones in the playground.

The school is, however, large enough for each year group to be in a separate class, and children progress up the school from the age of three to eleven with a secure group of friends.

Children are admitted to the Nursery (on a part-time basis) from the beginning of the term after their third birthday, and to the Reception Class in the autumn when they are four. (Please note that a place in our Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in the Reception Class, particularly for children living some distance from the school).

There are 170 children in the school (classes have less children than the national average sized classes) and the structure is as follows:

Nursery Foundation Stage
Reception
Year 1 Key Stage 1 – formerly Infants
Year 2
Year 3 Key Stage 2 – formerly Juniors
Year 4
Year 5
Year 6

School Day

The school, day begins at 8.45 am, though children can arrive from 8.30 am onwards. Afternoon school finishes at 3.15 pm.

Uniform

The school uniform consists of a royal blue sweatshirt with the school emblem, a white polo shirt, and grey trousers, shorts or a skirt. The sweatshirt and polo shirt can be purchased at the school office, as can the blue school fleece. In the summer, girls can wear a blue-and-white summer dress. Children are expected to wear shoes, not trainers. Children also need a simple PE kit, details of which are given in the school brochure.

Lunch

Hotlunches are provided at a cost of £1.90 per day. These meals are very popular, and fully comply with government legislation regarding nutrition. Alternatively children may bring a packed lunch.

Healthy Eating

We aim to be a healthy school, and children in the Foundation Stage are offered snacks of fruit or vegetables, and milk or water. In Key Stage 1 children are given fruit or vegetables as a snack, and children in Key Stage 2 can purchase fruit or vegetables at 10p per item, or they can bring their own fruit or vegetables from home.

Water

Children are asked to have a water bottle at school, so they can easily drink adequate water during the day.

Outdoor Play

At playtimes children are encouraged to be active and become fitter. Each class has its own set of equipment for playtime games and activities.

Recycling

The school has a commitment to recycling. Pupil monitors collected the fruit and vegetable waste and compost it in the “wormery”. Other items, such as paper, cardboard and plastic are sorted for recycling.

Secondary Schools
Most children move on to the following secondary schools:

  • Cordeaux School, Louth
  • King Edward VI Grammar School, Louth
  • Monks’ Dyke School, Louth
  • Birkbeck School and Community Arts College, North Somercotes
  • Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Alford.

There are school buses that take the children living in our catchment villages to and from the Louth schools each day.
